- CAMPAIGN
OBJECTIVES
- What is
the campaign goal? Why not set a goal now?
- The
campaign goal is $26M and is based on current needs.
-
- Why a new athletic complex instead of
academics or fine arts?
- In 2001, SJCP completed the 800 building
classroom complex. The 800 building has 13 new classrooms all equipped
with state of the art "smart boards." Included in this complex are a
foreign language lab and a computer lab equipped with 300 computers for
student use. In 2000, the new Student Center, an auditorium that seats
around 1,000 was built and is home to SJCP’s band and orchestra. The
combined Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes choir also perform in the Student
Center. The Lowman Theater, seats 225, and is used by the both the
Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes drama departments.
-
- What does joining the UIL mean? What
is a UIL?
- The
University Interscholastic League (UIL), a branch of the University of
Texas Board of Regents, has recently allowed private school to join the
program enabling academic, music, art and
athletic competition between private school students and public
school students. This will allow all students in Texas a chance to
participate in a recognized association.
-
- Is a natatorium necessary?
- The Athletics Task Team formulated its
recommendation of a natatorium with the overarching goal of having all
students participating in sports being able to practice and play on
campus, increasing opportunities for participation in a wide variety of
sporting activities along with the possibility of revenue-generating
ideas from this specific facility.
-
- Why a student union and chapel, I
thought there was a student center?
- The existing Parsley Center is an
auditorium where students and sometimes their families come together to
celebrate mass or attend special presentations. The student union will
be a place where students can gather socially, on their own and develop
their friendships apart from required assemblies.
-
- Will Strake Jesuit ever buy back the
Fiesta or apartment properties?
- Not at this time, but we are open to the
idea.
Why isn’t technology a part of the
campaign?
Technology has been updated as a part of a
recent past campaign and continues to be an ongoing goal for the school.
Strake Jesuit's computer facilities include two laboratories, each
equipped with thirty-one Pentium II workstations, a high-speed laser
printer, and a SMART Board and/or data projector for demonstrations and
presentations. There are additional computers and printers available on
both the first and second floors of the Moody Library for use by students
throughout the day. All computers on the entire campus are networked
together so that information and data may be shared and the efficient use
of hardware is possible. Each student has his own password-protected
account and personal disk directory on the network, and these are
accessible from any of the student machines on campus. Every workstation
can access the Internet through a dedicated T-1 line, and the school
maintains its own mail, domain name, and web servers locally.
