Ninth Grade
·
New Student Transition Program:
o
New Student Transition Toolkit: All students
receive a copy of this document which was compiled to provide information
designed to ease their transition into the Strake Jesuit community as well as
to better understand the mission, background and history of Jesuit education.
o
Classroom presentations on the following topics:
o
Strategies for
Success: Tips on organization, time management, and
the importance of a strong GPA
o
What’s Your
Type?
: Students complete a learning
style assessment and identify study
methods conducive to each learning style
o
Fostering
Positive Relationships With Teachers: Topics such as how to make the most of class
time, how to approach teachers for extra help and how to avoid common
teacher-student problems are covered
o
Getting
Involved: An overview of the many extracurricular and
community service opportunities available to students

Individual Meetings With Counselor All ninth graders meet individually with their
assigned counselor a minimum of once each quarter throughout the academic year.
o
Special emphasis
is placed on assisting each freshman to make a successful transition to Strake Jesuit.
o
The value of
compiling a strong record of academic achievement in order to enhance college
options is stressed.
o
Students receive
advisement as to which courses to register for during sophomore year.
o
Students activate
their Family Connection by Naviance accounts and receive an introduction to the
program. Family Connection is a
web-based program that allows students and families to investigate, research,
track, and plan for the college admission process and to explore various career
paths.

Students
chronicle extra curricular activities, community service, awards and
recognition, and employment/summer enrichment throughout career at Strake Jesuit .

Do What You Are Profiler (Myers Briggs Personality
Type/Career Match)

Students’ Myers
Briggs Personality Type is identified and corresponding information is
provided:

Understanding of
one’s personality type
·
Strengths and
potential blind spots are identified
·
Information about
career satisfaction is provided as well as a listing of potential careers and
college majors
·
Evening Presentations:
o
The Next Three Years- Information for parents and
students to help them to secure the best possible academic, religious,
athletic, extracurricular and summer experiences during their Strake Jesuit
career.
Tenth Grade
·
Individual Meetings With Counselor Students retain their freshman level counselors and
have individual meetings at least once each semester.
o
Students receive
advisement as to which courses to register for during junior year.
o
The value of
compiling a strong record of academic achievement in order to enhance college
options continues to be stressed.
o
In May, students
are encouraged to take the appropriate AP and/or

Standardized Testing. The practice PSAT is administered to all sophomores
and juniors at Strake Jesuit in October. Results of this test along with an
interpretation are mailed home in December.

Naviance Family
Connection Benchmarks:
o
Career Interest Profiler. Students
complete an Interest inventory which
provides listing of possible careers which correspond to results.
o
My Resume. Students enter necessary updates and
additions.

Evening Presentations:

Annual College Financial Planning Seminar – Presentation hosted by Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes
Academy which is normally held in September of each year at St. Agnes Academy.

Eleventh Grade
·
Individual Meetings With Counselor Each junior continues to work with the counselor that
he has been assigned to since his freshman year and has individual meetings
with his counselor at least once per semester.
o
The college
counseling process begins in January.
o
Students receive
advisement regarding course selection for their senior year.
o
Students receive
advisement on college admissions testing and AP and SAT II subject tests.
o
The value of
compiling a strong record of academic achievement in order to enhance college
options continues to be stressed.

Standardized Testing:
o
The PSAT is
administered to juniors in October.
Results of this test along with an interpretation are mailed home in
December.
o
Students take the
SAT, ACT Plus Writing and SAT II Subject Area Tests
and AP Exams as applicable.

offer first rate academic programs even through they do not fall into the most
elite category of schools.

The Remaining 1%-
Program presented by Strake
Jesuit’s College Counselors which provides information to top tier students
about increasing one’s chances for admission to a top 1% (selectivity index)
school. Detailed information is provided
on statistics, how to effectively package oneself, and the crucial role of
letters of recommendation.
Twelfth Grade
·
Individual Meetings With Counselor Seniors meet individually with their counselor at
least once each semester.
o
Students receive
guidance regarding various facets of the college admissions process:

Guidance
regarding application essays and the financial aid process is offered.
§
As seniors
receive college acceptances, scholarships and financial aid opportunities, they
are encouraged to meet with counselor to sort out the options and make the
appropriate choices.

Connection Benchmarks:

My Resume. Students enter necessary updates and
additions.
o
College Visits.
Students are able to access
schedule of visiting college representatives and sign up to meet with
representatives as necessary.
o
FERPA Waivers. Students sign waivers online allowing Strake
Jesuit to send academic documents such as transcripts and letters of
recommendation to the colleges and universities of their choice, both
electronically and by mail.

Writing and SAT II Subject Area Tests and AP Exams as applicable.
