Niko Niko's has great cheap Greek eats

By David Noble
Magis staff writer

Go to Niko Niko’s Greek Restaurant on any day at any time, and there will be a line at least half way to the door. You might be wondering how a restaurant can stay this busy every lunch and dinner for 37 years.
It’s quite simple: they serve up some of the best Greek food in town for under $10. Whether it’s the gyro sandwich (warm pita bread stuffed with lamb, tomatoes, onions and a yogurt sauce), roasted chicken, pastichio (Greek lasagna), or keftedes (Greek meatballs), everything on the menu is delicious.
Eleni Fetokakis started Niko Niko’s in a renovated gas station in 1977. Since that time, she has won 14 Marvin Zindler Blue Ribbon Awards, which are presented for a clean kitchen. Her son, Dimitrios Fetokakis, purchased the restaurant fairly recently and set out to make it larger with extra parking. This means that customers no longer have to park in the neighborhood and walk to the restaurant.
Though it’s larger, the new restaurant still retains the charm of the old Niko Niko’s and will undoubtedly remain one of the best places to eat Greek food in Houston. So, if you are in the Montrose area, stop by Niko Niko’s--it will be well worth the five minute wait!
