Jesuit golf finishes the season with disappointing results

The Jesuit Golf team has just finished up its season with the district tournament and a final exhibition match with Sacramento Jesuit. Although Jesuit will continue UIL competition with individual players, failure to place as one of the top two teams essentially terminated their season. However, considering that none of the top 5 golfers were seniors, the future looks bright for the team.

The top 5 positions were mainly dominated by Juniors, with the exception of one Freshman, Eugene Terry. Bryan Davis, Andrew Maryan, Patrick Dicosimo, Alex Poor, and Eugene shot the best for the golf team all season. With Junior rivalries over who the best golfer was all season, a Freshman had risen above them all by the end of the season. When asked how he felt about playing better than his upper-classmen brethren, Eugene responded, “I'm not concerned about who was the ‘Number One Golfer,' I just want to play the best I can.”

In the district tournament, Jesuit played poorly, with several of their best players shooting in the upper 80's and even low 90's, way too high to hope to have a chance of placing. Eugene , though, shot a 76 and a 75, good enough to continue individually and represent Jesuit. On how Jesuit fared at districts, Junior Andrew Maryan said “We played horribly. Hopefully this will motivate us to practice harder for next year and place in the tournament.”

The Golf team is not through, however. They will play a match against Sacramento Jesuit on Friday April 16. The outcome of the match helps determine a ladder standing of the two schools in comparison with schools all over the country and in Europe. On the match, Brian Davis said, “Even though this match is unimportant as far as the UIL goes, we still want to shoot well to show everyone how well we can play.”
